What to expect after a Permanent Makeup procedure

by | May 29, 2024

What to do immediately after a permanent makeup procedure?  There are multiple methods.

Most permanent makeup artist will provide an aftercare instruction sheet.  Follow carefully and ask questions if something is not certain.
Aftercare instructions are important for maximum color retention.

Please note: The day after the procedure, you permanent makeup may appear darker and bigger.   But don’t panic, if the correct pigment was used on your brows, they will lighten after about 2 weeks.

Brows:
Slight swelling, but not noticeable to the eye.  Most Permanent Makeup Artists will provide aftercare ointment for the first week.  While healing, you may notice dryness and flaking of the skin.  Hairstroke procedures will flake less than Soft Filled procedures.  Do not use moisturizer or makeup to cover up.   Most importantly, do not pick at the flakes of skin.  Just let it heal.  The first week, the color will be dark, but by week 2, the color will lighten and soften.

Eyeliner:
Slight swelling lasts about 3 to 4 days.  Depending on your skin and lifestyle, some people swell more than others.  Best to sleep with an extra pillow to elevate your head the first night after the procedure. The morning after the procedure is when you’ll be the most swollen.  Thereafter, slight puffiness is typical for few more days.  Slight tenderness to the touch is acceptable.  If the swelling is severe, painful, and it alters your vision, call your doctor immediately.  Avoid alcohol and salty foods for several days to minimize puffiness.

Lips:
You will have Angelina Jolie lips for about 2 days.  The color will be extremely dark until your lips exfoliate, approximately 4 to 5 days later.  Once healed, the color looks natural, not like lipstick.  For the lip procedure, it is recommended to use the AfterCare Ointment for minimum of 2 weeks.  Lip Blush or Lip Blushing  is recommended for men and women losing their natural pigment on the lips.

Average complete heal time for all permanent makeup procedure is 2 weeks.  Lip Blushing heals faster, but it may take up to 8 weeks for all the color to re surface.
